Their worries didn't end there, however, as the semiconductors used are
brittle and often break when bent. To combat this, the group used very
little photodetectors that they linked by thing cables on versatile
plastic strips. According to Yonggang Huang, lecturer of technological
innovation at Northwestern School, the cables formed little plastic
bridges that absorbed the strain caused by the change in shape.
According to Jeremy Manier, a reporter for the Chicago Tribune, other
teams are now using the new electronic cameras to determine how to get
electronic signals into the brain's vision centres, while Rogers is
working with a group of bioengineers at the School of California to
create electronic components on rubbery sheets that could prove vital in
the treatment of epilepsy. Dr Brian 18k White Gold or Yellow Gold Channel-Set Diamond Band (H/SI2, 1/2 ct. tw.) Litt, lecturer of neurology and
bioengineering at the School of California, says that versatile gadgets
could have a significant role to play in the creation of brain-computer
interfaces.
It's been suggested that the digital camera could become most useful in
military surveillance or space missions, where little unobtrusive
electronic cameras are often required. Flexible circuit boards may
discover their place in roll-up residential solar panels, wrap-around
movie shows and pressure-sensitive skins for robots.
